Background

Since 1996, Nutrilite has partnered with the Department of Human Nutrition and Food Science at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona, to host a biennial International Phytochemical Conference. Each conference features presentations by and for the scientific and academic communities regarding state-of-the-art phytochemical research in the areas of nutrition and phytonutrients. The first conference was held in 1996 with a focus on carotenoids, and in 1998 the conference focused on chemoprevention and bioactivity. In 2000 the presentations covered a complementary blend of research on echinacea, berries, wine, tocotrienols, isothiocyanates, phytoestrogens, and carotenoids, while in 2002 the conference focused on the bioactivity of polyphenols and other phytochemicals. The 2004 conference featured a roster of distinguished nutrition and phytochemical researchers who provided fascinating insight into the expanding field of nutrient-gene interactions. The most recent conference in 2006 focused on phytochemicals and their effects on aging. Through such collaborative efforts, the International Phytochemical Conference provides an excellent opportunity to bring both nutrition and phytochemical experts together to explore and exchange ideas in these exciting fields of research.

The International Phytochemical Conference was originally held on the campus of Cal Poly Pomona in the Kellogg West Conference Center. In 2006 the conference moved to the Nutrilite Health Institute (NHI) Center for Optimal Health (COH), a brand new, unique and innovative facility located on the grounds of the Nutrilite campus at 5600 Beach Blvd., Buena Park, CA. The 35,000 square foot COH houses interactive product, history, science and nutrition-related exhibits, flexible meeting spaces, auditoriums and research facilities. The COH enables the NHI to bring together leaders in the field of academia, science and research with business leaders and public audiences to increase consumer access to the highest possible level of nutritional information.
